UNIT 10

In unit 3 I was just starting out on this journey
I gave myself a 7 for physical, spiritual was a 1, and psychological was a 4.
I think I was not confident and somewhat lost, I know I have gained a lot since then.
My goals were:
A- Physical Goal- Eat more fruit and vegetables everyday for the next 6 weeks.
B- Spiritual goal- Do research on religion and spiritualness and find what works for me in the next 6 weeks.
C- Psychological- Do relaxation exercises everyday for at least 2 minutes for the next 6 weeks.

I have made progress in every area. I have been eating more fruits and vegetables, I have been craving them, since I found out I was pregnant two months ago.
I have been doing relaxation exercises everyday, maybe not twice a day everyday, but every night to help me relax and go to sleep. My spiritual journey, is still that, a journey. Its a work in progress, and I am still working with that part of myself. I have been able to do these activities by making sure that I put aside time everyday to stay mindful.

I have had a great personal experience throughout this class. This class has been the most unique class I have ever taken because it gets so personal. Its been rewarding because I don't feel lost like I used to, its like I have been opened to a whole new world. I am excited to continue on in life and do these practices to stay mindful, because its amazing, and I have never felt better.

Final Project

I Introduction:

Why is it important for health and wellness professionals to develop psychologically, spiritually and physically? What areas do you need to develop to achieve the goals you have for yourself?

Health and wellness professionals need to develop all areas of them to be able to guide their clients in development of their whole selves. If a professional does not have psychological, spiritual, or physical well being, it’s impossible to help someone else to get there. They need to know how to get there and to then be able to help someone else. Before this class I was already physically fit, from this class I became psychologically fit, and I need to finally develop my spiritual self. It has and still will be a journey for me to do keep developing. I have been able to use the exercises in this class to aid with my psychologically self, now I need to continue and start on my spiritual self, so I can reach the goal of human flourishing.

II Assessment:

How have you assessed your health in each domain? How do you score your wellness spiritually, physically, and psychologically?

Out of one through ten if I was to rate each domain as to my wellness in each I would give my spiritually a five, physically I would give myself a 9, and psychologically I would give myself a 9. I have come a long way in the past weeks from where my assessment was before. I obviously am still working on my spirituality, but hopefully soon I can give myself a high rating.

III Goal development:

List at least one goal you have for yourself in each area, Physical, Psychological (mental health) and Spiritual.

To continue with on the path to human flourishing we always need to have goals so we can continue our journey and reach them and set new ones. My physical goal is to continue working out every day and incorporating mindfulness in with my work outs. My psychological goal is to continue mindful exercises at least once a day; these include the exercises that I learned in class like the subtle mind. My spiritual goal is to do some soul searching and figure out what I believe in and nurture that belief and use it to become a more spiritual person overall.

IV Practices for personal health:

What strategies can you implement to foster growth in each of the following domains; Physical, Psychological, and Spiritual. Provide at least two examples of exercises or practices in each domain. Explain how you will implement each example.

The biggest strategy I can implement in all domains that would foster growth would be to set aside time each day to do exercises that promote growth in that area. For my physical domain I could try a new physical activity so I do not get bored. Maybe I could incorporate all three and do yoga and meditation class. For my psychological domain I could look up new mindful mediation and guided visualization videos on the Internet and try them. For my spiritual domain I could look to a religious group to join and go to every week. For my psychological and spiritual self I think I should find a support group for people that have gone through or are going through a deployment. I could implement any of these activities by looking into them and then actually taking the time to do them.

V Commitment:

How will you assess your progress or lack of progress in the next six months? What strategies can you use to assist in maintaining your long-term practices for health and wellness?

The most important thing to track my progress of my wellness would be to set goals and time limits for those goals. I also think it would be beneficial to keep a blog going every week and discuss what exercises I have been doing and how I feel. Rating each domain has helped me see the progress and that also would be useful. The main strategies I would use are using the book as a reference and also make sure to set time aside each day. If I find myself getting off track then I think it would be time to see a professional holistic healer. If you have a professional by your side I think it helps you to get focused again.

Unit 8

The two excerises that I liked the best were the Loving Kindness and Subtle mind exercises.
I like the loving kindness becuase you direst the energy in your mind to other people. I have done this excersise alot since I first did it and it helped me get over somethings from my past. I think its important to forgive people, and help people, even if its just in our own mind people it helps us get through those times. The Subtle mind exercise was great because it helped me get focused for the day. It did not have too much direction and I was easily able to relax each time I did it.
