Unit 5

1.The difference between the Subtle mind exercise and the loving kindness exercise.
With the loving kindness exercise I felt like I was opening up my heart to the world and to myself. With the Subtle mind exercise I was taking a step back and watching my mind think and observing that process. I liked the subtle mind exercise and I think I was ready for it because I did the loving kindness exercise everyday after the first time I tried it. I don't think I would have been ready for this exercise if I did not do the other first. I was able to relax and totally grasp what the voice was telling me to do. It was hard to stay focused but relatively easy to bring myself back also. I liked the subtle mind exercise as much as I liked the loving kindness, I seem to be using a different "part" of me with each though.

2.The connection between spiritual wellness to mental and physical wellness. How its manifested in my personal life.

Using this exercises I have been able to get a connection to something that was not their before. I cannot put a name to it, but I guess it would be my spirtiual self. I am able to use what I learned in the exercises thoughout the day to relax my mind, or when I am doing physical actvitiy to aid my mind and get a better work out. I find that I am more relaxed, less stressed, and I go to sleep easier at night. I think overall I have a more positive outlook on life. I am really grateful that I took this class and that I am able to experience this.

  1. Dana, maybe you were not relaxed enough to focus on the exercise. You could have had some other things going thru your mind that was distracting you. What did you mean by using a different part of you with each exercise? Was each exercise bring a different result to your thoughts and feelings?

  2. Dana, Timing is everything, as your indicated in your post if you had not experienced the loving-kindness exercise you would not have been ready for the 2nd meditation. What do you mean by opening your heart? What did you feel when you practiced the calming abiding exercise? What experiences took place upon completion of the exercise for you to experience an open heart? I also enjoyed the witnessing mind, calm-abiding exercise. I feel calmer, and have experienced others becoming agitated because of my calming nature. I find this interesting!

  3. Dana, I think it is great that you did the exercises everyday. I am not sure I have felt any different after completing each exercise. I guess I need to reach that deeper level within myself.
